Jefferson County Environmental Services – You establish an account and pay your monthly bill through Birmingham Water Works. However, if you have a sewer issue, want to run a new sewer line, or need an adjustment related to a water leak, contact Jefferson County Environmental Services at 325-5801.
Garbage and trash pickup is a municipal service for homeowners and is included in your property taxes. To start service, use the Action Center to make a “Garbage and Trash-Start Service” request. To report waste collection needs, use the Vestavia Hills Action Center or call Public Services at 978-0150. Grass clippings and loose leaves must be placed in bags or containers.
Recycling is a municipal service for homeowners and is included in your property taxes. Curbside recycling pickup is on Wednesday.

Currently Charter Communications is the only cable company in Vestavia Hills, except in Liberty Park where Bright House Network is available; other programming options include U-Verse (AT&T), satellite, DirecTV, and DISH. To find out whether satellites or dishes are allowed in your neighborhood, check with your homeowners association for its covenants.
Municipal property taxes are assessed and collected by Jefferson County. If you have a question about your property taxes, contact the Jefferson County Tax Assessor’s office at 325-5505. For information about the millage rate, visit http://vhal.org/departments/finance/faqs/ .
If you are a resident of Vestavia Hills and Jefferson County, you may register or renew your registration for automobile, trailer, motorcycle, and boat tags in the Finance Department at City Hall or with the Jefferson County or one of its satellite offices. Vehicle tags are a County document; transfers or other changes related to the title must be handled at the Jefferson County Revenue Office in Hoover, Jefferson County Courthouse, Bessemer Courthouse, or Center Point Courthouse.
You will need to go to an Alabama Driver License office to obtain or renew your driver license. A Jefferson County Revenue Office is located conveniently at 1901 Hoover Court, Hoover, AL 35226. Other places you may obtain a drivers license are the Jefferson County Courthouse and its satellites (currently Bessemer and Center Point), the Alabama Department of Public Safety, and other driver license offices in surrounding counties.
You may apply for a passport at the Vestavia Hills Library in the Forest. An appointment is required. Call 978-3683 for information.
To update your voter registration, complete a voter’s registration card and return it to the Jefferson County Board of Registrars (325-5550). You may find a printable card at www.alabamavotes.gov, or cards are available at the Vestavia Hills Library in the Forest.
City of Vestavia Hills
The City of Vestavia Hills is a municipality in the Greater Birmingham area of Jefferson County. We have a Council-Manager form of government with the City Council members elected at-large. Council meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at 6pm in the Council Chamber at the Municipal Center. The City website is www.vhal.org, and the main number is 978-0100. City Hall is located at 1032 Montgomery Highway, Vestavia Hills, AL 35216.

Vestavia Hills City Schools
We are extremely proud of our highly recognized Vestavia Hills School System, which annually produces scholarship and award-winning graduates, athletes, scholars, and students of many talents. The schools and faculty are also award-winning. Students in our community receive an education of highest caliber.
